Parsons provided engineering services for the projects\u2014part of EMWD\u2019s Sustainability and Green Energy Initiative\u2014including a feasibility study, preliminary design, coordination with Southern California Edison, construction management, and construction inspection.<\/p>\n<p>The original solar project, initiated in 2012, consisted of a 0.5-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic renewable energy facility at the EMWD Administration Building to offset traditional energy usage. The successful completion of this project in late 2013 triggered the initiation of five additional 1-MW-each solar projects at EMWD water reclamation facilities located in Perris Valley, Moreno Valley, San Jacinto Valley, Temecula, and Sun City. The solar facility at Sun City also offsets energy use at EMWD\u2019s Menifee and Perris I Groundwater Desalination Facility that provides potable water to the surrounding communities of Sun City and Menifee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParsons is excited about the role it has played in providing sustainable, solar energy throughout the EMWD. These solar projects will contribute to EMWD\u2019s goal of becoming \u2018grid neutral\u2019 in an economic environment where energy costs continue to rise,\u201d said Michael Walsh, Parsons Group President.<\/p>\n<p>To meet the deadlines required to achieve the California Solar Initiative incentives, the projects were performed on an accelerated schedule and procured using the design-build project delivery method. This suite of solar projects will offset traditional energy use at the water reclamation facilities and will constitute a significant portion of EMWD\u2019s renewable energy
