(April 14, 2020) \u2013 Parsons Corporation (NYSE: PSN) announced today that\nthree of the company\u2019s projects received Engineering Excellence Awards from the\nAmerican Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The projects span the United\nStates, including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Virginia\nAvenue Tunnel Reconstruction (VAT) project, a joint venture between Parsons and\nClark Construction, won the Grand Award, the organization\u2019s highest honor. <\/li><li>Monroe\nStreet Bridge project won a National Award. <\/li><li>TEXRail\nCommuter project, a joint venture between Parsons and TranSystems won a National\nAward. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese\nprestigious awards signify the quality of the work\nwe perform and the level of attention we provide both to our customers and to\nthe communities in which we work,\u201d said Aykut&nbsp;Urgen, senior vice\npresident of Parsons Mobility Solutions and Clark Construction-Parsons\nCorporation joint venture board member.&nbsp;\u201cEach project includes unique\ncharacteristics that make it truly remarkable \u2013 replacing\nmore-than-a-century-old infrastructure with a modern, state-of-the-art mobility\nsolution for the Virginia Avenue Tunnel; maintaining important neighborhood\naesthetics for Monroe Street Bridge; and substantially improving mobility in\nFort Worth, Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>About\nVirginia Avenue Tunnel: <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nVirginia Avenue Tunnel project, recognized with the prestigious Grand Award, is\nthe culmination of CSX Transportation\u2019s ambitious\nNational Gateway Initiative&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;an infrastructure improvement plan\ndesigned to improve rail connections by upgrading bridges and tunnels to\naccommodate double-stacked intermodal freight trains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;progressive design-build&nbsp;effort&nbsp;represented one of\nthe most critical and sensitive&nbsp;freight rail&nbsp;infrastructure\nimprovement projects in the country&nbsp;because it&nbsp;was adjacent\nto&nbsp;11 city blocks in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood\nof&nbsp;Washington, D.C.&nbsp;The VAT is an essential route for freight trains\ntraveling north and south through&nbsp;the District&nbsp;as well as for freight\ntraffic from eastern seaports to the Midwest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parsons and Clark Construction completed the project on-time, under\nbudget, and \u2013 critically \u2013 without ever interrupting CSX\u2019s freight traffic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>About Monroe Street Bridge: <\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nMonroe Street Bridge NE project in Washington, D.C. received the National Award\nfrom ACEC. The bridge, which plays a crucial role in providing access to the\nBrookland neighborhood and nearby Catholic University, underwent reconstruction\nto repair deterioration without sacrificing the artistic temperament of the\ncommunity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parsons\nwas selected by the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) to\ncomplete the design of the bridge, as the deterioration rate of the bridge\naccelerated rapidly when the top portion of existing prestressed concrete box\nbeams collapsed at multiple locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carrying\nMonroe Street NE over Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)\nand CSXT tracks, the bridge faced significant constraints, including steep\ngrading, gas and internet utility pipes and power lines and poles. The Parsons\nteam completed the bridge design, as well as relocating utilities, adding new\ntraffic signals and sidewalks, and providing landscaping improvements, in less\nthan six months from the notice to proceed to the final design. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>About\nTEXRail Commuter Project: <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another\nNational Award winner, the TEXRail Commuter project connected downtown Fort\nWorth, Texas to the busy Dallas\/Fort Worth International Airport. The 27.2-mile\ncommuter rail line was designed by Parsons\/TranSystems (PTS), a joint venture\nbetween Parsons and TranSystems Corp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndesign overcame challenges including working in and around existing rail\nstations and lines, numerous utilities and airport facilities.
