{"id":14391,"date":"2021-02-17T05:06:41","date_gmt":"2021-02-17T10:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/origin-www.parsons.com\/?p=14391"},"modified":"2023-08-30T11:32:26","modified_gmt":"2023-08-30T15:32:26","slug":"2021-emerging-trends-in-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.parsons.com\/2021\/02\/2021-emerging-trends-in-space\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 Emerging Trends In Space"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"790\" height=\"419\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/braxton_tibbetts_press_release_v2a.jpg\" alt=\"Space from earth\" class=\"wp-image-14392\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Welcome to 2021!&nbsp;Space has become part of our everyday lives\u2014and is transparent to most individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only do we rely on space today, it has become a global essential tool and, in some cases, utility, for most of our population.&nbsp;That said, there are specific trends emerging in Space that need to be recognized\u2014and watched for growth, expansion, and innovation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-parsons-blocks-icon-plus-text\"><span style=\"background-image:url(\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/space-solutions-icon.png)\" class=\"block-icon\" title=\"space launch\"><\/span><div class=\"block-desc\"><strong>Space Launch:<\/strong> We used to have a handful of space launch providers\u2014launching large, single-use rockets to get payloads to orbit; today, a satellite owner actually has choice and options on launch systems\u2014globally\u2014to get their asset on orbit.&nbsp;Launch providers are reusing systems to reduce costs and continue reliability.&nbsp;Look for even more options as the year moves forward\u2014this is an exciting area to watch!<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-parsons-blocks-icon-plus-text\"><span style=\"background-image:url(\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/distribution-of-data.png)\" class=\"block-icon\" title=\"distribution-of-data\"><\/span><div class=\"block-desc\"><strong>Distribution Of Data:<\/strong> In space operations\u2014both for defense and commercial applications, distributing the data to, through and from space systems to the cloud is becoming normalized.&nbsp;Having multiple physical locations where operators and users can access their content is now a near-everyday occurrence.&nbsp;The cloud provider still maintains control\u2014operations, governance, policy and progression.&nbsp;Resiliency and reliability are on an increasing trend as redundancy of data is a second-order effect. Additionally, we see lower latency of data access, reducing costs and minimizing management of the data itself.&nbsp;Long term\u2014cloud and space are inextricably linked.&nbsp;<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-parsons-blocks-icon-plus-text\"><span style=\"background-image:url(\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/mission-solution-icon.png)\" class=\"block-icon\" title=\"Space\"><\/span><div class=\"block-desc\"><strong><strong>Space Anywher<\/strong>e:&nbsp;<\/strong>With the emergence of the COVID pandemic, we have seen a fully adaptable adjustment to space operations\u2014access from anywhere you can access a communication system (WiFi, cloud, internet, etc.).&nbsp;Necessity as the Mother of invention\u2014the need driving the adaption\u2014has caused a relook of archaic location-based operations.&nbsp; Work from anywhere\u2014at any time\u2014with full capability\u2014is the new situation we see today.&nbsp;Space Operations, more and more, is working towards a \u201cdark ops floor\u201d construct.&nbsp;That said, tools like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI\/ML) are the next trends to watch.<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-parsons-blocks-icon-plus-text\"><span style=\"background-image:url(\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/AI-Data.png)\" class=\"block-icon\" title=\"AI\/ML Data\"><\/span><div class=\"block-desc\"><strong><strong><strong>Artificial Intelligence\/Machine Learning (AI\/ML):<\/strong> <\/strong><\/strong><em>Skynet <\/em>and <em>Genisys<\/em> references aside, AI\/ML is making our ability to operate from anywhere a real-time reality.&nbsp;With adaptive programming and reactive processing, we can point systems in the right direction with minimal interaction.&nbsp;Aside from upgrades, adjustments and maintenance, day-to-day operations are running unattended for space system across multiple mission areas and commercial solutions.
