The day-long event brought together leadership representatives from Parsons and faculty, postdocs, and alumni from cross-cutting MIT programs to explore the parallels between ongoing research and current industry needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re glad to have collaborated with MIT to deliver this workshop,\u201d said Biff Lyons, Parsons\u2019 Executive Vice President of Security &amp; Intelligence. \u201cThe unique nature of MIT\u2019s culture creates an environment where students from all over the world collaborate to tackle big problems, and that culture is also important at Parsons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibran Hadj-Chikh, Parsons\u2019 Director of Innovative Transport added, \u201cParsons\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/SmartCities_Brochure_02.2017_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smart City solutions<\/a>\u00a0are fueled by combining resources from academia and the engineering industry. These solutions can solve major infrastructure and transportation problems and ultimately create a safer and more sustainable world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt MIT Civil and Environmental Engineering, we are focused on addressing the most challenging issues in infrastructure and the environment,\u201d said Markus Buehler, Head of MIT\u2019s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. \u201cMany of the ideas discussed at the Infrastructure, Smart Cities and Transportation Workshop can be applied to current needs of the engineering industry, while defining the future of what it means to be a civil and environmental engineer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Infrastructure, Smart Cities, and Transportation workshop represented a continuation of a 50-year relationship Parsons has had with MIT, beginning with Ralph M. Parsons\u2019 donation of the funds to double the size of MIT\u2019s laboratory back in 1965. Parsons has been spearheading and supporting STEM programs in the communities where its employees live and work to help foster the development of the next generation of engineering and technical
