The accreditation was granted on March 13, 2017 after evaluations of Parsons\u2019 advanced geophysical classification quality and technical management systems by the independent accreditation organization, A2LA. Accreditation is required for all organizations conducting advanced geophysical classification on DoD projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParsons has been involved in the development of advanced geophysical classification since its early stages and is recognized as a national leader in the technology,\u201d said Carey Smith, Parsons Federal Business Unit President. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to be the first company to achieve this accreditation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advanced geophysical classification is an innovative metal detection technology that discriminates among subsurface geophysical \u201canomalies\u201d to identify which are potentially hazardous munitions and which are non-hazardous pieces of scrap metal. Reducing unnecessary excavation can save nearly 50% of cleanup costs for some projects\u2014often only 1 in 100 items detected are munitions.<\/p>\n<p>Parsons has participated in multiple DoD demonstration projects and successfully used the technology on full-scale remedial actions. At the former Camp Sibert in Alabama, Parsons\u2019 use of advanced geophysical classification saved the U.S. Army an estimated $2 million.
