PASADENA, CA (January 9, 2017) –Parsons is pleased to announce that two of its bridge projects have been recognized by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) for excellence in steel design and construction. The Vimy Memorial Bridge in Ottawa, ON, was honored with a national Excellence in Steel Construction Award, and the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge in Placentia, NL, received a Quebec Region Design Award of Excellence.

“We are thrilled that two of our bridge projects have been recognized by CISC with 2016 awards,” stated Michael Johnson, Parsons Group President. “These landmark bridges are impressive structures that connect communities and provide a memorable experience for commuters, and I am very proud of our project teams who worked tirelessly to make these projects successful.”

The Parsons-designed Vimy Memorial Bridge used steel to ensure the structure’s relative lightness, enabling 80% of the bridge to be constructed on land and then launched across the river to its final position, minimizing impacts to its historic and ecologically sensitive site. Its triple overhead arch configuration provides a light, open, and airy aesthetic that is harmonious with its picturesque natural setting. It previously won the Quebec regional award from CISC, the Gustav Lindenthal Medal from the International Bridge Conference, an Award of Merit from Consulting Engineers of Ontario, and an Award of Excellence from the Quebec Association of Transportation.

The moveable Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge features 1,100 tons of steel components in the bridge superstructure. Parsons’ design removes vulnerable elements of the bridge as far from grade level and water level as possible while incorporating aesthetics that celebrate the region’s nautical culture and tourism potential.

Founded in 1930, CISC operates as a technical, marketing, and government relations organization representing the Canadian Steel Industry. The biennial CISC National Steel Design Awards of Excellence were the culmination of a 2-year competition that brought together regional winners from across the country in four award categories: architectural, engineering, sustainability, and bridges.

PASADENA, CA (January 9, 2017) –Parsons is pleased to announce that two of its bridge projects have been recognized by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) for excellence in […]

[1

post-1851","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-press-release
