PASADENA, CA (July 26, 2017)<\/strong> \u2013 Parsons is pleased to announce that 11 college students have been awarded Ralph M. Parsons Scholarships for the 2017\u20132018 school year. The scholarship funds\u2014managed by the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU)\u2014were bequeathed by an anonymous and highly-regarded former Parsons employee in honor of the corporation\u2019s late founder, Ralph. M. Parsons<\/p>\n\u201cWe are delighted to be involved in awarding these scholarships,\u201d said Debra Fiori, Parsons Senior Vice President, Talent Management. \u201cAs a technology-driven engineering services firm, Parsons is committed to supporting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.\u201d<\/p>\n
Selection criteria set by the donor specifies that scholarship recipients must be STEM majors, enrolled in one of 16 private schools in California which offer STEM curriculums, have an above average academic record, and be engaged in their community or involved in extracurricular activities. The donor also stipulated that dependents of current Parsons employees should first be considered for the award, and then students from the 16 private engineering schools in California would be eligible for consideration.<\/p>\n
This year, the scholarships are being awarded to one Parsons dependent attending Chapman University and 10 non-Parsons dependent students attending California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont Graduate University, Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pomona College, the University of Redlands, the University of La Verne, the University of San Diego, and Westmont College. \u201cAICCU is proud to partner with Parsons in awarding these generous scholarships to some of California\u2019s best and brightest students who will contribute to the future workforce of California,\u201d said Kristen Soares, President of AICCU. \u201cThese awards allow students to access and attend private independent institutions that provide a learning environment in which they can grow and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fiori added, \u201cRalph M. Parsons loved engineering and solving challenging problems, and we are happy that these deserving students who are pursuing STEM related-careers will benefit from this financial support. Like Mr. Parsons, we hope they will work to help solve the world\u2019s future technical challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
Parsons also has its own scholarship program. This undergraduate\/graduate scholarship program was established in California in the 1960s and includes the dependents of Parsons\u2019 full-time employees attending an accredited college or university.<\/p>\n
