Technical Webinar Series

Background/Objectives

This is the third presentation of a three-part series to discuss per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The first two parts presented the industries’ current understanding of these complex contaminants, advanced investigation techniques, data analysis methodologies, and optimized reporting mechanisms.

This segment addresses our state-of-the-art approach to managing and treating this class of contaminants for our commercial and federal clients.

Approach/Activities

The presentation has two primary components that focus on the treatment of PFAS compounds in groundwater and surface water. The first half focuses on the current state of the science in treating PFAS compounds ex-situ in a water treatment plant setting. Les Cordone, P.E., presents examples of general process development and optimization techniques that can be employed to ensure cost-effective treatment for changing regulatory standards.

The second half is presented by Dan Griffiths, P.G., C.P.G., and focused on in-situ treatment options for PFAS in groundwater and surface water. It includes cost-effective methodologies to treat PFAS in groundwater and surface water in-situ using currently available technologies.

Path Forward

Dan concludes with a discussion of in-situ technologies that are under development by Parsons and others, concentrating on in-situ remedial technologies that are showing promise at the laboratory scale.
