Marseille Metro has been a vital transportation system in Marseille, France since 1977, operating on two lines over 22km (13.7mi), and 29 stations.

The new equipment and infrastructure and systems upgrades will enhance this popular mode of transport, particularly in terms of safety, accessibility, reliability, speed, and comfort, while optimizing operations and maintenance costs.

Our Role In Program And Construction Management

In 2016, we were awarded program management and construction management services to implement a new rolling stock, a computer-based train control (CBTC) system, and communications upgrades for unmanned train operation.

Implementing Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC)

In addition to CBTC installation, our team of rail experts are delivering project engineering and management of infrastructure improvements for fully automated driverless train operation. Working in close partnership with the client and subcontractors, our team ensures an efficient integration and renovation without interruption to operations.

Where CBTC Tech Advancements Meet A Comfortable Ride

The upgraded stations and train cars incorporate the latest technological developments to increase comfort, accessibility, improved passenger information, and facilitate maintenance. The new trains are scheduled to enter service in early 2024 in semi-automatic mode with drivers. The trains will switch to a fully automated operation in 2027.

Sustainability In Motion: Marseille Metro’s Energy-Efficient Upgrade

The newly designed, energy-efficient metros consume 25% less energy than the previous models. They also produce fewer emissions, and will be 96% recoverable at the end of their lifespan. Additionally, during the deconstruction of the old trains, the assigned contractor is in charge of removing asbestos and sorting various materials for recycling.
